Silcosteel® is an effective, general-use passivation treatment that meets the needs of many analysts, for
tubing, fittings, valves, and other system components that require passivation.

If you're storing, transferring, or analyzing relatively inactive compounds such as hydrocarbons, or working
with parts-per-million levels of active molecules (e.g., sulfur compounds), Silcosteel® treated glass,
stainless steel, steel or high performance alloy system components will assure you of the inertness you need.
Silcosteel® treatment does not, however, offer ultimate inertness often required in chromatography systems,
sample storage vessels, process pathways, or similar applications. For ultimate inertness, we recommend
Siltek® surface treatment.
Examples of Silcosteel®-treated systems and components include: Silchrome Saturn Ion Traps for Varian
GC-MS systems, cylinders for sampling sulfur gases at parts-per-million levels, and tubing/fittings used in
flow-through systems with short residence times.
